The Manager, Health and Safety Operations leads a statewide team that provides work Health and Safety consultancy and operational services across the QCS to support the implementation and continuous improvement of the QCS safety management system and more broadly, the safety culture and capability.
The role works collaboratively with management teams, to reshape and refine the service delivery of Health and Safety across the QCS, including correctional centres, as part of a centralised management structure.

The Manager, Health and Safety Operations works as a part of the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Group, and in partnership with other areas across the QCS, will support the operationalisation and continuous improvement of the QCS safety management system.
In this role, you will:
- Provide effective leadership and direction to a statewide team to operationalise the effective delivery of Health and Safety consultancy and on-site services across the organisation.
- Manage the implementation of programs and initiatives to improve Health and Safety outcomes and mitigate risks in collaboration with other QCS health, safety and compliance roles.
- Positively influence and provide authoritative strategic, tactical and operational Health and Safety advice and services.
- Contribute to the design and delivery of the QCS safety management system, including systems for the review, monitoring, measurement, analysis and reporting of WHS performance.
- Contribute to the development, implementation and management of the HSW strategy, framework and governance across the agency, ensuring compliance and facilitating a continuous improvement safety culture.
- Work as an effective high-level business partner, providing credible advice to senior leaders on workplace Health and Safety.
- Promote an uplift of WHS capability by facilitating opportunities for learning and consideration of future skills required to deliver programs, enabling increased capability and agility across QCS.
- Ensure ongoing employee management and performance conversations, empower employees to improve, to demonstrate ownership and responsibility, to deliver on commitments and conduct themselves in line with QCS values.
- Engage in strategic partnerships across all levels of management to build knowledge, understanding and Health and Safety leadership capability to ensure a ‘safer and healthier workplaces' mindset and culture is achieved.
- Contribute to the design and delivery of integrated and coordinated programs, services and solutions.
- Effectively liaise with internal and external clients, stakeholders and other parties to deliver services that meet organisational requirements.
- Actively work in collaboration and consultation with central agencies, regulatory authorities, relevant professional and peak industry bodies, and other external stakeholders to build QCS's and HSW's body of evidence on WHS in correctional settings.
- Lead and/or conduct research into WHS issues to determine applications, feasibility, cost impacts, and broader implications and present appropriate recommendations for various audiences.
- Effectively navigate a complex environment of organisational transformation and performance accountability.
- Prepare high level correspondence including briefing notes, submissions, reports and information reports.
