Operations Manager

At Halliday Engineering we work with many industries specialising in defence, shipping, mining, bulk product handling and power generation sectors within the marine engineering industry. We design, procure, fabricate, and repair plant and marine assets interstate and overseas. 

The Opportunity

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Operations Manager to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in driving the company’s commercial strategy, managing key client relationships, and contributing to the overall business growth. You will be responsible for managing a team of professionals, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of work, overseeing sales and business development functions, negotiating contracts, and ensuring the successful execution of commercial initiatives.  

About You

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field is preferred however not essential.
• Proven experience in a commercial or business development role.
• In-depth knowledge of maritime regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices.
• Strong leadership and team management skills, with a proven ability to lead, motivate and guide a diverse team. 
• High level of attention to detail with the ability to multi-task and prioritise.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities. 
• Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. 
• Proven ability to negotiate coupled with problem solving and decision-making abilities.
• A desire to take ownership of the role, working hard to achieve project outcomes & the determination & drive to succeed.

About the role

• Provide strong Leadership to the team, setting clear goals and expectations, and fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
• Develop and implement effective commercial strategies to achieve business objectives.
• Identify new business opportunities and partnerships to drive revenue growth.
• Manage and nurture relationships with key clients, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
• Lead and motivate teams, ensuring collaboration and high performance. 
• Negotiate and finalise contracts, ensuring favourable terms for the company.
• Ensure that all personnel are operating in accordance with company safety systems, receive appropriate inductions and are suitably qualified to carry out their tasks.
• Ensure works are completed in accordance with the appropriate standards.
• Assist with staff recruitment and performance management.
• Foster a positive working environment that encourages innovation and growth.

• Working at heights
• Confined space
• EWP Yellow Card
• Dogging/Rigging
• Confined Space Sentry
• Gas Testing
• Leadership training
