Job description

Are you an innovative HR professional looking to take a newly created role and make it your own? Midland Irrigation is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as a part-time HR Officer (0.05 - 0.6 FTE) who can develop and create a new role in HR to support our expanding team. 

 

About the Role:

At Midland Irrigation, we take pride in our rich history and continued growth. As we expand, we're looking for a forward-thinking HR Officer to support our team. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in generalist HR practices and a thorough understanding of HR policies and procedures.

The bulk of the role will involve conducting employee orientations, guiding employee interactions, supporting the management team, and ensuring that we keep our culture of being friendly and professional. There is opportunity for developing and refining our systems and helping us to ensure that we continue to support our employees well. We’re eager to find a HR Officer who connects easily with people and has a detail-oriented mindset for handling the dynamic nature of our workforce.

There is also scope to be involved in liaising with our external marketing firm if you have a passion for marketing. This is not an essential requirement of the role but could be incorporated for the right candidate.

 

Objectives of this Role:

  • Oversee and refine HR standards and procedures, utilising existing systems and suggesting improvements.
  • Develop employee benefits programs for mental and physical health.
  • Manage recruitment efforts and conduct orientation and training programs.
  • Ensure timely and appropriate communication to staff re salary adjustments and other contractual changes,
  • Provide hands-on support and practical advice to both employees and managers, fostering a culture of collaboration and professionalism.
  • Ensure compliance with HR regulations. 
  • Identifying and recommending innovative ways to maintain and enhance our standard operating procedures, including training, team building and maintaining our organisational culture.
  • Support workforce development and retention.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with managers to develop and implement strategic HR plans aligned with the business direction.
  • Monitor day-to-day HR activities, including coaching managers, resolving grievances, and counselling employees.
  • Champion high-quality onboarding and training processes to align roles with the business vision.
  • Maintain HR policies and procedures, updating guidelines as needed.
  • Build strong relationships with staff at all levels, promoting collaboration and trust.
  • Assist with preparation of Payroll.
  • Handle confidential matters with discretion

 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Five or more years of HR experience.
  • Experience working with a retail/trade workforce.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with an ethical mindset.
  • Proven ability to be self-managing and report clearly and appropriately.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Marketing experience is desirable however not essential to the requirements of the role.

 

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in human resources or related field.
  • Strong understanding of industrial laws.
