An exciting opportunity has become available in our Communications and Engagement team for a Senior Communications Officer on a full-time fixed term basis until 31 May 2024 (with the possibility of extension). Part-time applications will also be considered.
In this role, the successful applicant will develop and deliver a range of communication activities to inform, engage and promote City initiatives and projects to key stakeholders, including the community and media. Building and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders is essential in this role to support strategic, proactive communications and media relations.
Key responsibilities of this role include:
- Develop original, creative and innovative solutions to communication issues.
- Develop and implement strategic and/or cross-organisational communication initiatives and plans.
- Ensure the City's brand is represented consistently and appropriately as per City guidelines.
- Provide advice and support to other branches for preparation of communications materials such as posters, flyers, forms and correspondence.
- Liaise with external consultants and contractors.
- Proactively identify and prepare media releases and opportunities to promote City services, initiatives and achievements, and enhance the City's reputation.
- Coordinator media enquiry responses on behalf of the City.
- Monitor the media environment and exercise judgement to instigate and develop strategic responses to issues as they arise.
- Provide media relations support to City spokespeople, including preparing briefing information and coaching.
- Maintain an understanding and awareness of current affairs with a particular focus on local government issues.
- Lead the development of digital news content for the City's website.
- Assist and support in the development and maintenance of content for other digital channels including e-newsletters, social media and intranet as required.
- Produce or review and edit City organisational publications as required, including brochures, newsletters and advertising.
- Coordinate publication of the quarterly Talk About Subi newsletter.
- Write and coordinate the City's regular (fortnightly) newspaper advertorial.
- Review and approve City branding on publications (include third party publications).
To be successful in this role you will have:
- At least two years' experience in a communications/public relations role
- Completed or studying towards an appropriate qualification.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and maintain innovative communications plans and strategies.
- Excellent written communication skills within the context of public relations, with demonstrated ability to prepare a wide range of communications content for a diverse range of audiences and mediums.
- Sound project management skills.
- Advanced ability to use corporate computer systems and content management systems.
- Highly developed and proven interpersonal, organisational and influencing skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to produce high quality work within tight timeframes.

Salary Range: $91,880 - $99,230 per annum, plus 11% employer superannuation and additional co-contribution to your superannuation.
