About the vacancy 

Working within the Finance and Business Improvement Team, the Senior Payroll Officer works autonomously to provide an end-to-end payroll service including administering and maintaining the Adelaide Festival Centre payroll system and ensuring staff are paid on time and correctly, inclusive overtime and penalties in accordance with the relevant industrial instruments.

The Senior Payroll Officer processes superannuation, PAYG, payroll tax and deductions, and is responsible for maintaining compliance with all other statutory and legislative reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the payroll system subject matter expert for Adelaide Festival Centre.
  • Develop and maintain currency of knowledge in the areas of best practice payroll, superannuation, salary packaging and entitlements and penalties administration, public sector policy and legislation and imparting key changes quickly and effectively to key stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Manage and administer the payroll and time and attendance systems including new staff, terminations, staff changes and changes to employment conditions.
  • Process the fortnightly payroll accurately and on time including following up exceptions with relevant managers.
  • Process payment through the bank.
  • Maintain the integrity of the payroll system and associated processes through accurate and complete administrative and payroll processes, data entry, record keeping and document management.

Competencies and Skills

  • Sound understanding of the functionality of the payroll system with particular understanding of Sage Micropay an advantage.
  • Sound interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate, both written and verbally, listen and assess the needs of customers and liaise with a wide range of people, both internal and external to the organisation.
  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Sound understanding of legislative requirements impacting on payroll processes (e.g., payroll tax, superannuation, income tax).
