Position:Underground Manager
Work Location: Thunderbox Operations (TBO) - located in the highly prospective Yandal Belt and the Agnew-Wiluna Belt in the North Eastern Goldfields of Western Australia
Roster: 8 days on, 6 days off
The Underground Manager reports to the Mining Manager, and the primary role is to ensure that short, medium and long-term mine plans are implemented to optimise the life of mine and enable the business to meet its long- and short-term objectives in terms of production and cost within the Mining Department.
Success in this role will be a high performing individual who proactively engage in safety processes and adherence to required controls. Actively monitors and promotes the value of safety policy to facilitate continuous improvement, high quality work and the management of cost in line with business goals. The team will develop a high level of skill, integrity and ownership developed through your active coaching, engagement and standard setting behaviour.

Key responsibilities:
- Develop and manage the underground mine and associated activities to safely meet the Company's strategic goals.
- Conceptual mining studies on new ore bodies.
- Communicate the LOM Plan to all relevant personnel creating an awareness of future targets and directions.
- Finalise unit cost calculations for estimation purposes and educate all production and technical underground personnel.
- Explore alternate mining methods that may have the potential to reduce operating costs.
- Develop a succession plan for roles within the team.
- Directly manage and supervise the operational team including external mining contractors and/or Northern Star Mining team.
- Manage contractors on site including preparing end of month and financial and contract management.
- Drive continuous improvement to lift mine performance.
- Work with department managers, including but not limited to safety, geology and processing.
- Support the General Manager in their statutory and strategic responsibilities and deliverables.
Required skills and attributes:
- WA Underground First Class Mine Managers Certificate of Competency.
- Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution.
- WA Underground Supervisors Certificate of Competency.
- Current "C" Class Western Australian Drivers License.
- Minimum 10 years relevant experience in the mining industry.
- Minimum of 2 years in a senior leadership position (preferably an Alt. Underground Manager role).
- Underground production and planning experience in a mechanised hard-rock underground mine.
- Demonstrated success in leading a professional team.
- Detailed working knowledge of the Mines Safety and Inspection Act & Regulations.
- Good skills in spreadsheet and presentation applications.
- Ability to communicate effectively across all levels.
- Strong report writing and presentation skills.
