Job description

Company

Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB) markets Melbourne as one of the world’s leading business events destinations and is responsible for identifying and securing national and international conventions, corporate meetings, exhibitions, and incentive travel programs to generate economic and social impact for Melbourne and regional Victoria. MCB is a subsidiary of Visit Victoria.

Visit Victoria is the primary tourism and events company for the State of Victoria. We inspire people in both the domestic and international markets, to visit Melbourne and Victoria through creative storytelling and enriching events. Our role is to drive visitation and expenditure through destination marketing and a strong pipeline of major, regional and business events to support the visitor economy.

We aim to build Melbourne and Victoria into Australia’s number one tourism destination by delivering strong and sustainable growth across priority markets.

Visit Victoria employs 160 people in Melbourne and across key international markets. We all work together on our goal to revitalise the visitor economy, by generating $35 billion in annual visitor expenditure and supporting 300,000 jobs by June 2024.

About this Position

Join us at MCB for a thrilling parental leave opportunity as a Bid Manager! This 12-month adventure ends on June 30, 2025. Wondering what makes it thrilling? As a Bid Manager, you'll be diving into Melbourne's vibrant international event scene, working to secure international conventions of strategic importance to the state. Your efforts will directly contribute to Melbourne and Regional Victoria's economic and social impact.

Your days will be filled with strategic management of complex international event bidding opportunities involving high level stakeholder engagement, nurturing external relationships with local suppliers and SMEs, and collaborating with Subject Matter Experts. To thrive in this role, you'll need to be 50% personable, 25% process-oriented, and 100% computer literate (we'll show you the ropes with SimpleView, NetSuite, and Qwilr).

Ideally, you'll come with a background in account management, stakeholder/relationship management, and maybe even a dash of economic development experience. Excited? Keep reading!

The role

  • Manage a dynamic bid portfolio and craft tailored strategies for business conversion.
  • Develop and implement bid strategies, including EOIs, bid documents, and presentations.
  • Assist clients throughout the bid management process, from lobbying strategies to budget preparation.
  • Lead engaging meetings with key stakeholders from government, academia, and industry.
  • Keep our databases in tip-top shape, following SOPs diligently.
  • Take part in hosting of inbound site visits for key decision makers as well as attendance at other industry events as required (after hours work and weekend work sometimes required).
  • Collaborate closely with the marketing team to create professional bid collateral.
  • Work hand-in-hand with the Business Development Team to gather resources for seamless bidding processes.

About you

  • A tertiary qualification would be icing on the cake.
  • Proven experience in business development or account management, ideally in the events sector.
  • Deep knowledge of the association, academic, and business events industries.
  • Stellar communication and presentation skills, coupled with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strategic thinking prowess and excellent time management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and a whiz at internet research and data analysis.
  • Driven by results and eager to take on public speaking opportunities.

Why Join Us?

At Visit Victoria we are committed to providing an employment experience that ignites and challenges any imaginations.

  • Our work makes a positive impact on the Victorian community.
  • Access to a range of amazing events and functions from sporting to comedy to cultural and more!

  • A reward and recognition program that aligns with our passion for Victorian experiences.
  • A hybrid working model and open contemporary working facilities.
