Job description

While you would be based in Cairns, there will be significant and frequent travel to remote locations, inclusive of the Cape York and Torres Strait Island regions.
This work is provided for a diverse range of clients including people with disabilities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, those experiencing domestic or family violence, financial difficulties and homelessness.

About the Role
The Cairns Community Legal Centre is offering an exciting opportunity for a Fulltime Client Support Officer to join their team. This is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Identified position (Cairns Community Legal Centre Inc claims exemption under the QADA Section 104 & 105).
Reporting to the Centre's Principal Solicitor, you will be responsible for undertaking high quality Client Support work that seeks to make a difference. This also includes the provision of paralegal, clerical and administrative support to assist the Centre’s team.
Some of your daily responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):

• Consultation with and support of clients and community initiatives to reduce the incidence of Elder Abuse in Cape York and Torres Strait Islander communities. 
• Provision of introduction and assistance for clients accessing social and legal supports.
• Ensuring that Community traditions and protocols are advised to Centre staff working with seniors and their families in the Cape and Torres Strait.
• Participation in community meetings and forums to develop and raise the profile of Cairns Community Legal Centre and its service. 
• Identification, preparation and assistance in delivering community education in relation to both legal and social issues relating to elder abuse, financial exploitation of seniors, and consumer law matters; 
• Undertaking promotional and awareness raising activities; and
• Provision of paralegal, reception and clerical support to the Cape York and Torres Social Worker and Solicitor as well as other Centre staff, when required.
