We currently have an opportunity for a Manager of Health, Safety, Environment, Quality to join our team. Reporting directly to the General Manager and forming part of the Executive Leadership team, you will use your strong coaching and mentoring skills to work closely with your team and all stakeholders to manage and support this critical role within the business. This role will be based in Kewdale WA with regular travel required to interstate sites and branches.
Position Summary
As the Manager of HSEQ you will be responsible for managing the HSEQ aspects of the business, promoting and growing Otraco International PTY LTD through the delivery of a fully integrated, proactive, efficient, and high-quality HSEQ division. This role is responsible for maintaining and promoting the company’s processes through active leadership and successful responsive communication and support. Duties include:
- Act as Otraco’s functional safety leader, lead the implementation of the overall Safety Strategy and plans, and drive the continuous improvement of all systems, processes, and tools in the HSEQ space.
- Development and manage effective change management strategies that will enable the implementation of agreed improvement strategies – with a focus on high-risk work
- Provide input into the Otraco strategy by establishing safety frameworks, standards, guidelines, systems, and processes.
- Work with Otraco’s Executive management team to translate stakeholder strategy into specific sector/functional plans and targets
- Coach all operational and functional leaders to maintain compliance with all relevant policies, standards, guidelines, and legislation, existing & new.
- Monitor and guide incident investigations and communicate incident investigation reports utilising Incident Cause Analysis Methodology (ICAM) processes
- Develop effective communities, functional capability, and talent within the Otraco operations
- Actively develop, participate in and improve on the HSEQ networks across all Otraco operations to enable regional/ local support to attend critical incidents, attend/ support key events, and lead local investigations where local expertise is needed
- Provide SME input, analysis, root cause identification, solution generation/selection and coaching
- Develop and coach key personnel and implement collaborative programs that strengthen the safety and environmental knowledge of the operational team to fulfil project and organisational needs
- Provide input to all Safety reporting on performance and progress, including development of solutions to issues that compromise the attainment of agreed performance targets
- Review annual budgets and minimise costings where required
- Identify discrepancies in the HSEQ area and implement solutions
- Monitor audits, producing audit reports ensuring corrective actions are coordinated and managed effectively
About you
Our ideal candidate will be a degree-qualified Safety professional with significant experience in the Mining or Tyre industry You will be an expert in Safety & Quality, and well-versed in influencing to achieve safety outcomes. To be considered, you will bring:
- Experience working on either the contractor or client side in a senior Safety capacity
- Demonstrate and successful change management experience within the Mining or Tyre industry with relevant HSEQ management experience/capability in a similar business environment
- A proven track record in building and maintaining effective relationships with clients, project management and on-site personnel
- In-depth understanding of HSEQ standards, management systems and applicable statutory provisions across multiple jurisdictions
- Extensive experience in leading change to foster the development of a site workplace culture focused on safety
- A consistent high performing nature-focused and results-oriented mindset, driven by excellence, a change agent and highly autonomous with a sense of urgency
- Strong leadership skills to manage and deliver key requirements in a geographically dispersed operation
- Extensive experience in Hazard Identification, Risk Assessments and Control Measures, internal auditing, and incident investigation
- Proven track record and reputation for professional leadership. Strong systems knowledge ensuring safety standards and audits are implemented and achieved
- Strong leadership skills, coaching and mentoring of teams to drive success coupled with a collaborative approach to delivery of top-down and bottom-up initiatives into operational businesses
