Located at the start of the Great Ocean Road in Torquay, our dedicated team of health professionals have been providing quality medical care to their local community for many decades.
From humble beginnings of one doctor in the 1970s, we have grown to thirteen doctors.
We are accredited by Agpal and participate in quality improvement activities.
Surfcoast Medical Centre is also committed to training the health professionals of the future and is a training practice for students of medicine and nursing.
In February 2023, we opened Women's Health Torquay. This specialised clinic, just a short distance away from Surfcoast Medical, is a place where women feel welcomed, listened to and cared for.
About the role
We are looking for an experienced GP Medical Receptionist to join an established team on a part-time basis.
This position will consist of up to 4 permanent rostered days, a rotating roster of Saturday mornings and the willingness to cover leave when necessary. The successful applicant will be trained to work across both of our clinics.
About the role in our team
The role will see the successful applicant:
- Greeting and welcoming clients into the practice.
- Booking appointments (including basic triage)
- Maintain medical files (including new registrations)
- Process patient billings & payments (including processing online claiming and banking)
- General administration duties including dealing with incoming and outgoing mail, scanning and faxing
- Communicate effectively with doctors, practice nurses and other members of the reception team

Skills and experience
Our ideal candidate wish list:
Essential experience
- Previous medical reception experience in a GP clinic (candidates without experience will not be considered)
- Excellent computer skills
- A working knowledge of the MBS general practice item numbers
- Knowledge of Best Practice (or similar software)
Preferred experience
- Understanding of medical terminology
- Understanding of HotDoc online booking system
