Network Design and Integration works to deliver transport priorities through the development, delivery and maintenance of an integrated pipeline of projects supporting the Major Transport Infrastructure Program, plan Victoria’s rail network, supports Road Safety for Victoria and Freight for Victoria.
Road Safety Victoria is a Division the Department of Transport, and is responsible for leading the Victorian Government to achieve Zero road fatalities by 2050.
About the Role
This position is Full Time Fixed Term until 31/01/2026.
Road Safety Victoria has a signifcant program and project pipeline focussed on reducing fatalities and serious injuries on the road network. The Safer Road User Behaviour and Access (SRUBA) team provides specialist project and policy support across a range of key Road Safety areas including road user behaviour, licensing, network access, active transport safety and education.
The Road Safety Project Officer works in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team with a focus on impaired driving, and contributes towards the development of policies, briefing material, and offers a range of project support that may include engaging with internal and external stakeholders and procurement activities.

Position Outcomes
The Road Safety Project Officer is responsible for contributing to the management and delivery of projects aimed at enhancing Road Safety measures and outcomes.
Operating under program manager supervision, the Project Officer plays a crucial role in providing project support, coordination, and analysis to ensure the successful development and delivery of Road Safety initiatives. This position will focus on efficiently managing project-related activities, fostering collaboration and contributing to the overall success of Road Safety Projects.
Project management coordination and support encompasses project monitoring, financial management, and reporting. Additionally, the position supports the provision of policy advice, evidence-based proposals, and briefings to senior management on Road Safety initiatives, participating in negotiations with key stakeholders, and contributing to a high-performing team focused on innovation, continuous learning, and fostering a culture of personal growth within Road Safety Victoria.
Key Selection Criteria
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS –
Project delivery (Applied) - Defines tasks to be delivered to meet agreed outcomes; Coordinates and guides others in the execution of work activities; Monitors progress of tasks against plans and takes corrective action when required.
Communicate with impact (Applied) - Prepares and delivers logical sequential and succinct presentations; Uses clear and concise language; Uses media appropriate to the audience and presents information to develop the understanding of the topic.

Where guidelines are not available, analyses ideas available and takes action through self, or in consultation with others to resolve problems. Knowledge management and business continuity (Applied) - Implements and support others to apply knowledge management and business continuity practices in day to day work.
Business and Commercial Acumen (Foundational) - Understands impact of back-office policies and processes to immediate work unit; Identifies potential gaps or conflicting process and policies.
In addition to the core competencies, the individual needs to demonstrates foundational resilience by embracing new ideas, expressing opinions, and maintaining discipline in assigned work, while also applying self-awareness to understand and manage emotional responses, assess personal strengths and weaknesses through feedback, and actively contribute to a collaborative team environment by sharing information and supporting others in challenging situations.
Qualifications and Experience
Mandatory
Experience and proficiency in project management tools, quality systems and software.
Project coordination/support experience
Desirable
A tertiary qualification or certification project management or a related field, or strong experience in delivery of behavioural Road Safety policy
Strong communications and negotiation skills and the ability to present complex information in a digestible form.
