About the team Operations & Passenger Delivery (OPD) team is committed to keeping Melbourne moving by delivering exceptional passenger experiences through, on time, reliable, safe and efficient services. We achieve this through face-to-face interactions by our frontline teams, supported by our safety operations, operational readiness, and network performance teams.
About the role The Scheduling Officer (Rail Replacement Bus) will research, develop and issue MTM’s daily timetable incorporating all alterations to the master timetable to facilitate operational changes including Special Events, temporary track closures and access to the Metropolitan rail network. Reporting into the Rail Replacement Bus Planning Manager, your other responsibilities will include (but not limited to):
- Assist in conducting safety audits and risk assessments of bus stops and interchange points
- Support the development of train Replacement Bus service plans in consultation with the Timetable Delivery team (or equivalent) within Operational Planning, and other stakeholders)
- Ensure information required by train Replacement Bus operators is provided on time and in accordance with contractual requirements
- Manage notifications of forthcoming busing events to affected local councils and DTP (Vic Roads) and other stake holders in a timely manner.
- Update the Bus requirements for forthcoming busing events in DOMP.
- Assist the manager with RRB charter cost and Fuel levy reconciliation.
- Assist analysis and provision of forecast bussing costs based on MTM’s Disruptive Occupations Schedule
- Work pro-actively to reduce MTM’s bussing costs
- Support the preparation of in-field MTM staff resourcing plans to support planned bussing events
- Provide expert advice on bus service plan development as required
- Ensure safe and compliant timetable alterations complying with MTM’s franchise obligations
About you You will be a highly effective communicator with knowledge of the principles of train time tabling, train graphs in an operational environment or similar. You will also need to demonstrate:
- Demonstrated experience of timetable preparation and publication processes within the Timetable Management System (TMS) environment
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to utilise systems and tools to improve processes and outcomes
- Highly developed problem-solving skills
- Stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain information to internal and external parties, driving effective outcomes
- Ability to follow occupational health, safety and environmental procedures in the rail industry
- Ability to identify and analyse risks, and make corrective actions
