Job description

When asked about school science classes, most people recall beakers and bunsen burners. While setting stuff on fire is always fun, science class today, and especially a Stile science class, is about so much more.  

From lab-grown meat, to the gut-brain axis, or computer-brain implants to working out how we’ll feed a colony on Mars and beyond, Stile is the school science curriculum preparing our young citizens for the world they’re living in. It’s about equipping them with the critical thinking skills and problem solving tools needed to tackle the big issues of today, and tomorrow.

We think young people everywhere deserve this sort of  world-class science education.

More than 1 in 3 Australian secondary schools use Stile’s science curriculum to explore and analyse the science behind the big issues facing us globally.  Every week, over 250,000 students from around Australia, and increasingly the United States, use Stile’s current-edge technology platform in their classrooms. Stile empowers teachers with everything they need to deliver a relevant, engaging and rigorous science education for their students (yes, even the beakers and bunsen burners, they’re still important).

But as we grow and expand our business globally, we need your help! There’s so much more we can do to support our hard working teachers. We’re looking for someone to join our amazing P&C team on a part-time basis to help us keep our office running smoothly.

The People & Culture team is the heart of Stile. We exist to help the wider organisation empower and enable teachers to do what they do best – teach. Our P&C team is the driving force that ensures everything runs smoothly and keeps our exceptional team satisfied, motivated, and passionate about their work.

We need someone who is super passionate about creating an office environment that’s better than home. The Stile HQ office is something we take extreme pride in and love to show off. It’s super comfortable with a lounge room and couches, a fully stocked kitchen with snacks and all the cookware to make your home cooked lunch, and even a shower to freshen up after your bike ride in. 

Here are some of the things you’ll be doing to help the team revolutionise science education:

  • Ownership of our office space
    The core of this role is to ensure our office spaces are delightful, productive, and clean places to work. We want you to spruce up our offerings, create efficiencies, and surprise and delight moments of fun where you can.
  • Keeping our office stocked and tidy
    We want you to own our office like it’s your own home – something you’re super proud to show off. You will be responsible for a weekly grocery order to keep us all fueled. You’ll also ensure that our normal stock like bathroom supplies, coffee filters, and stationery are always topped up.
  • Hosting bagel bar every week
    Every Wednesday we have a little midweek treat with a spread of bagels with the works for everyone to enjoy. You’ll prepare everything so that this is ready in the morning.
  • Liaising with external vendors and calling in repairs when needed
    You’ll be Stile’s first point of contact for all of our vendors. We have vendors for our plants, cleaners, printer, shredder – the list goes on. They’ll know you and you’ll maintain a relationship with them. Every now and then something will break; you’ll be the one to call to get it fixed.
     
  • Ensuring deliveries get to the right person
    There are a fair few deliveries that arrive at Stile. It’s important that these deliveries don’t get lost and make it to the right person or team.

This role also has an opportunity to help out with our office move in August and September as well as bigger events, should the need arise.

About you

This is an entry level position or for someone who is looking to get back into the workforce on a part-time basis.   • You’re able to build connections with everyone you work with. People love talking to you and feel confident that you’ll solve their problems. 
Hours and location

This is a part-time (0.5FTE), permanent role based in Melbourne, Australia.

Overall we’re an “in-person” culture (we enjoy working together face to face), so expect to see staff in the office 3-4 days a week. Due to the nature of this role, we would require you to be in the office everyday. Our office is in the CBD near Parliament station.

From time to time, there is an opportunity to increase your hours based on events or work around our office relocation towards the later half of the year.
