As part of their expansion plans, they are seeking for an Accountant to join their dynamic team.
The Opportunity
The Accountant will play a pivotal role in supporting the finance team and providing financial support to the Commercial Finance Manager of the business group, which includes multiple entities. This position requires an experienced and qualified Chartered or CPA Accountant with strong technical abilities and an analytical mindset.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the financial operations of the business, financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and performance reporting. The Accountant will liaise from time to time with the group’s external Accountant and various stakeholders across the organisation to ensure the effective management of financial resources and drive business growth.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation and analysis of financial statements and reports, review assignments in chart of accounts, formulate budgets and forecasts for the group (per business and per project)
- Assist with review of payroll and carry out Single Touch Payroll finalisation.
- Undertake financial analysis, identify trends and present recommendations to improve business performance and profitability
- Provide financial guidance and support to accounts payable, accounts receivable and project teams, assisting with coding, cost estimation, pricing strategies, and financial feasibility assessments
- Review and support multi-entity submissions of Business Activity Statement (BAS), Income Activity Statement (IAS), Payroll Tax, Superannuation, Fuel Tax Credits (FTC) and Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT)
- Ensure compliance with accounting principles, regulations, and internal policies, and drive continuous improvement of financial processes and controls
- Support preparation of financial reports and analysis to the senior management team and stakeholders, highlighting key findings and insights
- Support inter-company invoicing, cash flow and financial risk, optimising working capital and mitigating financial exposures
- Assist in collaboration with the procurement and contracts team to assess supplier and subcontractor financial stability and negotiate favourable terms
- Stay up to date with industry trends, changes in accounting standards, and emerging financial practices, recommending and implementing best practices
- Support Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) annual reporting, license upgrades and associated responsibilities
About You
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
- Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant qualification
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in an Accounting role, preferably with some experience in construction, engineering or heavy industry
- Strong technical knowledge of accounting principles, financial analysis, and reporting – especially including Tax and FBT
- Proven experience in budgeting, forecasting, payroll and financial modelling
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights
- Advanced proficiency in financial management software and MS Excel
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Experience of group / multi-entity structures, reporting and inter-company transactions
- Experience and proficiency with Xero Accounting Software, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and financial consolidation software
- Previous experience in a supervisory/team leader role
- Understanding of the construction industry, including project accounting and contract management
- Knowledge of taxation and regulatory requirements specific to the construction industry
